KP Government Unveils Rs. 364 Billion Education Reform Plan for 2025–26
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a comprehensive education reform plan with a Rs. 364 billion budget for the fiscal year 2025–26. The initiative focuses on improving infrastructure, enhancing the quality of education, and expanding access for students across the province.
Public-Private Partnerships and New School Projects
In a recent press conference, Education Minister Faisal Tarakai revealed that 1,500 government schools will be transitioned to the private sector under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Additionally, 200 new schools will be established through the Elementary Education Foundation to cater to underserved areas.
Smart Classrooms and Digital Access
To modernize learning environments, Rs. 1.2 billion has been allocated for smart classrooms and digital infrastructure. High and higher secondary schools will receive computer labs and internet access, bridging the digital divide for students in remote regions.
Improving Primary Education
Special attention is being given to schools in merged districts, where basic infrastructure remains a challenge. The government plans to build 500 new classrooms for primary schools. In addition, free textbooks, school bags, and stationery will be distributed to all primary students, supported by the education card scheme.
Preserving Educational Heritage and New Initiatives
The 2025–26 education budget includes:
-
29 new development projects
-
Restoration of 10 historic schools
-
Provision of complete furniture to all schools by the end of the year
Focus on Teacher Attendance and Enrollment
Minister Tarakai reported a 6% increase in teacher attendance, thanks to improved monitoring systems. He emphasized that efforts to enroll out-of-school children will continue year-round through targeted outreach programs.
“Our goal is to ensure every child in KP has access to quality education,” said Minister Tarakai.
