PM ‘delays’ cabinet meet to take up PTI ban

Cabinet Meeting to Discuss PTI Ban Postponed Due to PM’s Busy Schedule

An important cabinet meeting, scheduled for today (Tuesday) to discuss the potential ban on the opposition party PTI, has been postponed due to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s busy schedule, according to sources from PM House.

The meeting, originally set for Monday, was expected to address the contentious issue of banning PTI, a matter that has become a significant point of debate for the ruling coalition. Media reports indicated that the cabinet was also set to consider proceedings against former President Arif Alvi, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, and former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri under Article 6 of the Constitution.

An official informed Dawn that the prime minister rescheduled the meeting due to his packed agenda on Tuesday. The meeting is now likely to take place on Wednesday.

The government has already announced its intention to ban PTI from politics and prosecute its leader for sedition, citing charges of violating the Constitution. Last week, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar accused PTI of engaging in anti-state activities since 2014 and being responsible for multiple deaths during various protests against the government and state institutions.

The minister specifically blamed PTI for a fatality that occurred during a peace rally in Bannu last week, further intensifying the calls for action against the party.
