A few months ago, the US-based nonprofit Creative Community For Peace called for the withdrawal of Bisan’s Emmy nomination.
The request, supported by a letter signed by several Hollywood figures, accused Bisan of alleged links to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which is recognized as a terrorist organization by the United States.

Despite these claims, Bisan’s film received strong support from Adam Sharp, President of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), who confirmed that the nomination adhered to the competition’s guidelines.
Bisan’s work, which had already earned a prestigious Peabody Award, recounts her family’s dramatic escape from the bombings in Gaza.
Her Emmy win not only honors her powerful storytelling but also sheds light on the critical role Palestinian journalists play in documenting their experiences during conflict.
The News & Documentary Emmy Awards, known for recognizing excellence in journalism and documentary filmmaking, made significant strides this year by highlighting voices that are often underrepresented in mainstream media.
Reporting on the Israel-Gaza conflict earned several awards, with CNN taking home the Emmy for Outstanding Breaking News Coverage, as well as the award for Outstanding Continuing News Coverage. In total, CNN led the ceremony with 11 wins.
