Air Force Day: Air chief Sidhu says PAF committed to advancing capabilities in electronic warfare, cyber tech

PAF Marks Martyrs’ Day: Air Chief Vows to Advance Cyber and Electronic Warfare Capabilities

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) observed Martyrs’ Day on Sunday with solemn ceremonies held across all its bases to honor those who sacrificed their lives in the defense of the nation. The central ceremony took place at Air Headquarters in Islamabad, with Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu as the chief guest.

Air Chief’s Address

In his remarks, ACM Sidhu reaffirmed that the PAF remains committed to advancing its strength in space, electronic warfare, cyber technologies, indigenous defense production, and niche domains to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty.

He emphasized that Martyrs’ Day symbolizes bravery, professionalism, and sacrifice, reflecting the proud legacy of the force.

The air chief also laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument and offered fateha for the fallen heroes.

Legacy of Sacrifice

Special prayers and Quran recitation were held nationwide, dedicated to the martyrs of the 1965 and 1971 wars, as well as those who laid down their lives in the line of duty since independence.

ACM Sidhu highlighted the PAF’s performance during Marka-i-Haq (Bunyanum Marsoos), noting that recent operations once again demonstrated the air force’s determination and capability to defend Pakistan’s aerial frontiers.

Tribute from Leadership

Both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed the decisive role of the PAF in safeguarding the country, particularly during the recent conflict with India in May, when Pakistani jets downed six Indian aircraft.

  • PM Shehbaz praised the PAF’s “fearless leadership, superior strategy, and unmatched professionalism,” noting its ability to defeat an enemy “many times larger.”

  • President Zardari highlighted the PAF’s historic contributions, from the 1965 war to recent conflicts, describing it as a “modern, capable, and highly professional force.”

Honoring the Martyrs

On August 14, a total of 488 national awards were conferred on the martyrs and veterans of Marka-i-Haq, including Sitara-i-Jurat, Sitara-i-Basalat, Tamgha-i-Basalat, and Imtiazi Sanad.

Both leaders paid tribute to the families of martyrs, acknowledging their sacrifice as the greatest of all, and expressed confidence that the PAF would continue to protect Pakistan’s skies with dedication and courage.
