Punjab Extends Free Solar Panel Scheme Deadline to December 2026

 Apr 14, 2026

The Government of Punjab has announced a six-month extension of its free solar panel scheme, aiming to expand access to renewable energy for low-income households across the province.

On the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the deadline for the scheme has been extended until December 2026. The updated plan includes the distribution of more than 94,000 solar systems, with an estimated allocation of nearly Rs. 10 billion.

Under the initiative, solar systems will be provided free of cost to eligible consumers through a transparent balloting process. The program will cover all districts and tehsils of Punjab to ensure wider accessibility.

According to officials, the scheme has received significant public interest, with over 800,000 applications submitted so far. Initially scheduled to conclude in June 2026, the extension has been approved to accommodate the growing demand and allow for increased distribution.

The initiative is part of the provincial government’s efforts to promote clean energy solutions and reduce electricity costs for households.
