Exclusive: Starlink Satellite Internet Launch in Pakistan Confirmed

Pakistan Set to Launch Satellite Internet with Elon Musk’s Starlink by Year-End

ISLAMABAD: In a major leap toward digital connectivity, Pakistan is preparing to roll out its first-ever satellite-based internet service, with Elon Musk’s Starlink expected to begin operations in the country by the end of 2025, sources confirmed to ProPakistani.

Starlink Ready to Operate Under Local Regulations

Starlink has officially submitted its application for registration with Pakistani authorities, expressing full compliance with the nation’s laws and regulatory frameworks. The Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (P-SARB) is in the final stages of formulating a comprehensive international satellite internet licensing policy, which will pave the way for granting operational licenses to providers like Starlink.

Once the regulatory structure is finalized, Starlink will be registered with P-SARB, followed by the issuance of a license by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

Government Engages Global Tech Giants

In a proactive move, P-SARB recently organized a workshop in Islamabad, attended by key satellite communication companies. Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, was present, underlining the government’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure.

Major global players such as Amazon, OneWeb, and Shanghai Telecom have also shown interest in operating in Pakistan. However, Starlink is the first company to formally apply under the country’s emerging satellite internet regulations.

Elon Musk’s Possible Visit to Pakistan

Speculation is growing that Elon Musk may personally attend the Starlink launch event in Pakistan, which would mark a historic moment for the country’s technology and telecommunications sector.

Bridging the Digital Divide

Once operational, Starlink’s satellite internet service is expected to revolutionize connectivity across Pakistan, particularly in remote and underserved regions. The service will support the government’s push for digital transformation, e-learning, telehealth, and rural development.

Officials believe the launch will not only boost economic activity and expand access to the digital economy but also enhance national resilience through improved communication networks. Authorities have confirmed that Starlink’s operations pose no security threat to national agencies.

Conclusion:
Pakistan’s partnership with Starlink signals a bold step toward bridging the digital divide, offering faster, more reliable internet across the nation. As regulatory approvals move forward, all eyes are now on the potential game-changing launch expected later this year.
