NDMA Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert for Punjab and Azad Kashmir
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather warning, forecasting heavy rainfall across several districts of Punjab and Azad Kashmir over the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the alert, intense showers are expected in Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, and Pakpattan. These rains may lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas, while streams and drains could overflow.
In the hilly areas of Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Bagh, Kotli, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, and Haveli, intermittent rainfall is expected. This raises the risk of landslides and flash floods, with strong water flow in mountain streams potentially affecting road networks and traffic.
Authorities have also issued a separate alert regarding rising water levels in the Sutlej River. Large-scale evacuation operations are ongoing in affected areas, with the Punjab PDMA, Rescue 1122 teams, and Pakistan Army engineers actively involved in relief and rescue efforts.
The public is advised to avoid rivers, streams, and low-lying areas, limit unnecessary travel, and stay updated via TV, radio, mobile alerts, and the NDMA Disaster Alert App.
