Hong Kong Cricket Sixes returns after seven years

The Hong Kong International Cricket Sixes Returns This November

The iconic Hong Kong International Cricket Sixes, which delighted cricket fans from 1992 to 2017, is set to make a triumphant return this November.

Hong Kong’s cricket legacy dates back to 1842 when the first official game was recorded. Despite its small size, the city has consistently excelled on the global stage, with both the men’s and women’s teams currently ranked in the top twenty among the 108 International Cricket Council (ICC) members.

After a seven-year hiatus, the Hong Kong Sixes will be revived as the fastest format of cricket. Organized by Cricket Hong Kong, China (CHK), a member of the International Cricket Council, and sanctioned by the ICC, this event promises excitement and top-notch competition.

Scheduled for November 1-3, 2024, the tournament will take place at the Tin Kwong Road Cricket Ground. It will feature 12 nations competing over three thrilling days.

“We are excited to bring back this iconic event that showcases our city as a truly world city and a sporting capital of East Asia to the world and our cricket credentials. The strategic plan is to develop the Hong Kong Sixes into a global series, culminating every year with the grand finale at home,” said Burji Shroff, Chairperson of Cricket Hong Kong, China.

The Hong Kong Sixes has a rich legacy, stretching back to 1992, and has featured some of the most renowned names in cricket. Legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Shane Warne, M.S. Dhoni, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Malik, Sanath Jayasuriya, Anil Kumble, Umar Akmal, Glenn Maxwell, and Damien Martyn have showcased their talents on its pitch.

Teams from cricketing powerhouses such as India, Australia, England, Pakistan, South Africa, and more have participated, helping the Hong Kong Sixes gain a worldwide fanbase.

In the 2017 edition, South Africa claimed the title by defeating Pakistan in the final. South Africa and England lead with the most Hong Kong Sixes titles, each winning five. Pakistan holds the second spot with four titles, while Sri Lanka, Australia, India, and the West Indies have each won one title.

Get ready for a spectacular display of cricketing talent and excitement as the Hong Kong International Cricket Sixes returns this November!
