Islamabad to Get Free Wi-Fi at 35 Key Locations

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced that free Wi-Fi will soon be available at 35 prominent locations across Islamabad, including major markets, Metro and Electric Feeder Bus stations, and public parks. This initiative aims to offer convenient internet access to residents and visitors in the capital’s busiest areas.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, at the CDA Headquarters. Officials confirmed that the CDA’s technical team will fully support the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) in implementing the project. The system will be operated and maintained by NTC, with the long-term goal of turning Islamabad into a free Wi-Fi city.

Chairman Randhawa emphasized the importance of creating an operational and marketing model to make the service self-sustainable. Revenue generated from the service will be reinvested in its maintenance and future upgrades. He also stressed that uninterrupted service and high-quality connectivity must be ensured for all citizens.

Highlighting the government’s vision to digitize the capital, Randhawa said that all necessary resources will be mobilized to provide modern facilities, making Islamabad the first free Wi-Fi city in Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by NTC Managing Director Major General (R) Ali Farhan, CDA Member Finance Tahir Naeem, Member Planning Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Director IT, and other senior officials.
