Kyle Karros Shines in MLB Debut, Following in Father Eric Karros’ Footsteps
Colorado Rockies third baseman Kyle Karros made an impressive start to his major league career Friday night, mirroring the success of his father, Eric Karros, the 1992 National League Rookie of the Year.
The 23-year-old rookie hit an RBI single in his very first big-league at-bat against the Arizona Diamondbacks, a moment he described as “unreal” and “fun,” despite the Rockies’ 6-1 loss.
Kyle, drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 MLB draft out of UCLA, quickly climbed the Rockies’ minor league ranks. He was hitting .301 with six home runs this season before his promotion.
“Seeing him get that first hit in his debut game was fantastic,” Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer said. “He also drew a walk and played solid defense. It was a great start for him.”
Eric Karros, who hit 284 home runs during his 14-year MLB career primarily with the Los Angeles Dodgers, was present to watch his son’s milestone, along with family and friends. Like Kyle, Eric also played college baseball at UCLA, where he was teammates with current Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo.
