Nationwide Internet Slowdown Expected in Pakistan Due to PTCL Maintenance Work

 October 14, 2025

Internet users in Pakistan may experience slower speeds and connectivity issues today as Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) carries out scheduled maintenance work on one of its submarine cables.

According to PTCL, the maintenance activity is necessary to repair a faulty repeater in the undersea cable system. The process will begin at around 11:00 AM PST on October 14 and may continue for up to 18 hours.

“During this period, customers might experience temporary degradation in Internet services. We regret the inconvenience and appreciate our users’ patience,” the company said in its official statement.

Some users have already reported intermittent access to popular platforms like Facebook and Instagram, as per data from the internet monitoring service Downdetector, which has recorded a noticeable rise in outage reports during the last 24 hours.

This is not the first time connectivity has been affected by submarine cable issues. Last month, PTCL highlighted that a cable fault in Saudi waters had temporarily impacted bandwidth availability during peak hours.

PTCL has assured customers that restoration work is being prioritized and that normal service will resume as soon as maintenance is complete.

The announcement follows a weekend when mobile internet services were briefly suspended in Islamabad and Lahore due to public safety concerns amid large gatherings.
