Punjab Police Crack Down on Electricity Theft: Over 105,000 Arrested Across Province

LAHORE: Punjab Police have intensified their efforts against electricity theft, arresting 105,753 individuals from January 1 to September 30 across the province. A total of 140,570 cases have been registered against those involved in this illegal activity.

According to a police spokesperson, challans for 96,800 cases have been completed and submitted, while over 20,000 offenders have been sent to jail.

In Lahore, the provincial capital, police arrested 45,242 individuals in connection with electricity theft, with 45,728 cases registered. Of these, challans for 23,314 cases have been submitted, leading to 12,146 individuals being incarcerated.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has emphasized a zero-tolerance approach towards electricity theft, urging that all operations be conducted without discrimination. He stressed the importance of protecting the national treasury by swiftly arresting proclaimed offenders involved in electricity theft.

The IGP also called for improving recovery rates and ensuring the timely registration of cases in coordination with relevant electricity companies. Additionally, a strict action plan is to be implemented to further crack down on offenders.

Dr. Anwar reiterated that Punjab Police will continue to provide full support to electricity companies in their efforts to combat electricity theft across the province.
