Pakistan to welcome first monsoon spell from June 25

Pakistan is set to experience its first spell of monsoon rains from June 25 to June 30, 2025, bringing much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted rain, wind, and thundershowers across various regions during this period.

🌧️ Monsoon Forecast

The PMD anticipates that moist currents from the Arabian Sea, combined with a westerly wave, will lead to pre-monsoon rains starting June 25. These conditions are expected to subside the prevailing heatwave. The forecast 

  • June 25–30: Rain, wind, and thundershowers with isolated heavy falls in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh.

  • June 26–29: Rain, wind, and thundershowers with isolated heavy falls in Barkhan, Loralai, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Ziarat, Musakhel, Dera Ismail Khan, Karak, Waziristan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, and Okara. June 27–28: Rain, wind, and thundershowers with isolated heavy falls in Sukkur, Jacobabad, and Larkana.

🌡️ Heatwave Relief

The ongoing heatwave, characterized by temperatures exceeding 40°C in many regions, is expected to subside with the onset of these rains. The PMD has advised the public to remain cautious during this period, as heavy rainfall may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas and pose risks in mountainous regions.

Authorities have urged citizens to stay away from vulnerable infrastructure, power poles, and rivers during strong winds and rains to avoid any untoward incidents. Tourists are advised to exercise caution, especially in hilly areas prone to landslides.
