Pakistani Legend Reveals Missing Ingredient in Hasan Nawaz’s Batting

Hasan Nawaz Shows Promise as Pakistan’s Next Modern Batter, Says Sadiq Mohammad

Pakistan’s quest for a reliable modern-day batter may have found a promising candidate in Hasan Nawaz. The young right-hander has impressed early in his international career, but former Test opener Sadiq Mohammad believes there is room for improvement before Hasan reaches world-class status.

Hasan, 22, made a striking ODI debut, earning the man of the match award with an unbeaten 63 that helped Pakistan secure a five-wicket victory over the West Indies in the series opener. He followed up with a steady 36* in challenging conditions during his second game.

While praising Hasan’s power-hitting, Sadiq emphasized the importance of a well-rounded batting approach at the highest level.
“He needs to refine his ground strokes and focus on playing in front of the square,” Sadiq said. “Improving wrist work and strike rotation is crucial. In ODIs, rotating the strike through singles and twos is just as vital as clearing the boundary. Quality bowlers will exploit any technical flaws if these areas aren’t addressed.”

Sadiq also highlighted the need for Pakistan’s coaching team to help Hasan polish his technique, pointing to captain Babar Azam as an ideal example for strike rotation and building an innings.

With only 16 international innings so far, Hasan Nawaz has plenty to learn. However, his early performances suggest a bright future, especially given his ability to clear the boundary when required.

Supported by coach Mike Hesson and driven to improve, Hasan Nawaz could become a key figure in Pakistan’s middle order and help lead the team’s rise in international cricket.
