PM Shehbaz leaves behind major world leaders in speech viewership on UN’s YouTube

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has gained significant attention, surpassing the viewership of several global leaders on the UN’s official YouTube channel. Since being uploaded on September 28, 2024,

The speech has attracted over 140,000 views, making it more popular than speeches by other prominent figures, including US President Joe Biden.

For comparison, President Biden’s address, uploaded on September 22, garnered 103,000 views, while China’s foreign minister’s speech received 84,000 views since being posted. Similarly, the UNGA speech by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a key figure amid the ongoing Middle East crisis, received 51,000 views after being uploaded on September 25. Additionally, the speech by India’s foreign minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, received only 52,000 views.

In his address, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted pressing global issues such as the unresolved conflicts in Palestine and Kashmir, which he warned were creating severe humanitarian crises. He called for international efforts to resolve these disputes, while also addressing challenges like terrorism, climate change, and Islamophobia.

Sharif criticized neighboring India for expanding its military capabilities, stressing that Pakistan would “respond most decisively” to any aggression. He also condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, describing it as “systematic slaughter” and an assault on human dignity. The prime minister urged the international community to end the ongoing violence, warning that failure to implement UN resolutions could escalate tensions in the Middle East with potentially grave consequences.
