Islamabad-Rawalpindi to Get Modern High-Speed Train Service

ISLAMABAD – A high-level meeting chaired by Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday approved plans for a modern and fast train service connecting Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Key Features of the Project

Officials confirmed that the new service will run between Margalla Station in Islamabad and Saddar Station in Rawalpindi, reducing travel time between the twin cities to approximately 20 minutes.

  • The Ministry of Railways will provide the existing track infrastructure.

  • The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will manage train operations.

  • The framework agreement for the project is expected to be finalized and signed next week.

Authorities stressed that work on the project will be carried out on a priority basis.

Benefits for Commuters

Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi described the initiative as an important public welfare project, emphasizing its potential to make commuting faster and more convenient.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the project reflects the government’s commitment to improving daily life for citizens.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry highlighted that the service will provide a fast, affordable, and reliable transport option while helping reduce traffic congestion on the busy roads connecting Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The project promises to be a game-changer for daily commuters, offering both speed and convenience while easing pressure on the region’s road network.
