Scotland Development Programme (SDP): A Golden Opportunity in Women’s Hockey Pathway

August 6, 2025 – 

Scotland’s women’s hockey pathway is thriving, and there’s never been a better time to get involved. With all female national squads returning to A Division European competition and the U21 women’s team qualifying for the 2025 Junior World Cup, the momentum is stronger than ever.

What is the Scotland Development Programme (SDP)?

The Scotland Development Programme (SDP) is a high-performance pathway designed for young, ambitious female athletes with the potential to rise to senior international hockey. It serves as a stepping stone for those not currently in the National Aspiring or Senior squads but who are ready to take their game to the next level.


Who Can Apply?

The SDP is open to players who meet the following criteria:

  • Eligible to represent Scotland

  • Under 23 years of age as of January 1, 2026

  • Not currently part of the National Aspiring or Senior squads

A key focus for this cycle is players under 21 as of December 31, 2024, making them eligible for the Junior World Cup in December 2025.
