NADRA Issues Step-by-Step Guide for CNIC Name Change in Pakistan
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a comprehensive video tutorial to assist citizens in updating their names on Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs).
Required Documents
Before visiting a NADRA Registration Centre, applicants should prepare the following:
-
Computerised birth certificate (Union Council or Cantonment Board) with the updated name.
-
If not available, an affidavit (Form C1 for B-Form, Form C2 for CNIC) can be used.
-
Dar-ul-Ifta certificate if the name change is due to a change of religion.
Application Process
-
Visit any NADRA Registration Centre and obtain a token.
-
Complete biometric verification and data entry.
-
Provide fingerprints and a photograph.
-
Review and verify details on the printed form before submission.
-
Application is approved by the office in charge — some family-related questions may be asked.
-
No form attestation is required for CNIC amendments.
Fee Structure & Processing Time
-
Rs. 2,500 – Executive Service (7 working days)
-
Rs. 1,500 – Urgent Service (15 working days)
-
Rs. 750 – Normal Service (30 working days)
Once approved, applicants receive SMS confirmation and can pay fees at the NADRA office or online. The updated CNIC must be collected from the same centre where the application was submitted.
NADRA’s initiative aims to make CNIC name changes easier, faster, and more transparent for citizens across Pakistan.
