World Rugby and Getty Images Launch Programme to Empower Next-Gen Sports Photographers at Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025
World Rugby has joined hands with Getty Images, one of the world’s leading visual content platforms, to launch an exciting initiative designed to nurture the next generation of sports photographers. The groundbreaking programme will give young visual storytellers the chance to develop their skills on the global stage of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 in England.
Pitch-Side Training at a World-Class Event
As part of the initiative, participants will work pitch-side at one of the biggest international rugby tournaments, guided by Getty Images’ award-winning sports photographers. The group includes students from Nottingham Trent University’s BA (Hons) Sports Photography course as well as emerging female photographers.
From capturing raw emotion to documenting the defining moments of matches, these budding professionals are learning how to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced sporting environment.
A Strong Focus on Women in Sports Media
The programme reflects the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 mission to promote inclusivity and create opportunities within the sports industry. Of the 14 photographers selected, 10 are women, showcasing rugby’s commitment to bridging the gender gap in sports photography.
By championing women behind the lens, World Rugby is reinforcing its wider vision of rugby as a sport where everyone belongs, regardless of gender, background, or lifestyle.
Opportunities to Shine on the Global Stage
The first group of photographers showcased their talent at the Ireland v Japan and South Africa v Brazil matches on August 24 at Franklin’s Gardens, Northampton. A second group covered the Italy v Brazil and France v South Africa fixtures on September 7 at the same venue.
The most promising participants will be selected to cover the Women’s Rugby World Cup final on September 27 at Allianz Stadium — a career-defining opportunity for any aspiring photographer.
Beyond Photography: A Complete Learning Experience
In addition to technical training, participants gained first-hand insight into the behind-the-scenes world of international sports media. They networked with industry leaders, engaged with media operations teams, and experienced how Getty Images operates during a world-class event.
This holistic approach ensures participants leave with confidence, professional connections, and high-quality portfolios to launch their careers.
