Amir Mazari and Hajra Sohail Shine at SICAS Punjab Junior Tennis Championship 2025
Lahore: The future of Pakistan tennis looks bright as rising stars Amir Mazari and Hajra Sohail stole the spotlight at the SICAS Punjab Junior Tennis Championship 2025, held at the Punjab Tennis Academy, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore. The exciting event was organized by the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA) with support from SICAS.
In the Boys U-18 Singles Final, Amir Mazari delivered a stunning performance, defeating Asad Zaman in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. His powerful serves and confident strokes earned him a well-deserved championship title. Although Amir narrowly missed out on the Boys U-18 Doubles crown — partnering with Haroon Arif — the duo was overcome by Asad Zaman and Abdullah Pirzada, who claimed victory with a 6-1 scoreline.
In the Girls category, Hajra Sohail emerged as the standout player of the tournament, capturing two titles. She first defeated Bismal Zia 6-4 in the Girls U-18 Final, then once again bested her in the Girls U-14 Final with a convincing 6-2 win, confirming her status as one of Punjab’s most promising young talents.
The Boys U-14 Singles title went to M. Umar Ali, who edged past Ohad-e-Mustafa 5-4, 5-3. Umar then paired with Ahmad Fareed Yawar to secure another trophy in the Boys U-14 Doubles Final, defeating M. Muaz and M. Ayan 4-2.
In the Boys U-12 category, Muhammad Muaz overcame Muhammad Aayan 6-4 to claim the title, while Khadija Khalil earned victory in the Girls U-12 Final, beating Aiman Rehan 6-2. The Boys I-10 Final saw a dominant display from Salman Pirzada, who won 6-0 against Daniyal Abdullah.
Adding excitement for senior players, the Seniors 45+ Doubles Final proved to be a crowd favorite. Talha Waheed (GO Petroleum) and Ashar Khan triumphed over former ITF Masters representatives Shehryar Salamat and Hadi Hussain in a close 8-6 match.
The Beginner Girls’ events showcased young emerging talent: Iman Monoo won the U-12 title 6-1 over Peershay Awan, while Arianna Ahmad took the U-14 crown by defeating Nooriya 6-2. In the U-8 Mixed Category, Musa Pirzada earned Gold, Faiz Pirzada took Silver, and Ibrahim Faizan claimed Bronze. Meanwhile, in the U-6 Mixed Category, Sara Pirzada won Gold, followed by Om-e-Zahra (Silver) and Haniya (Bronze).
The Prize Distribution Ceremony was graced by Mr. Shehryar Salamat, Director of SICAS, who served as Chief Guest and presented trophies to the winners. Rashid Malik (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz), Tournament Director and PLTA Senior Executive Vice President, expressed sincere appreciation for SICAS’s continued role in promoting youth tennis.
