Anisimova Stuns Sabalenka, Swiatek Dominates to Reach Maiden Wimbledon Final
LONDON: In a thrilling day of women’s semi-finals at Wimbledon 2025, Amanda Anisimova delivered a career-defining performance by upsetting world number one Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, booking her place in her first-ever Wimbledon final.
The 23-year-old American showcased fearless shot-making and unwavering focus, extending her head-to-head record over Sabalenka to 6-3. Her victory keeps American hopes alive for a third women’s Grand Slam title this year, following Madison Keys’ win at the Australian Open and Coco Gauff’s triumph at Roland Garros.
“This doesn’t feel real,” Anisimova said after the match. “Aryna is such a fierce competitor. I’m proud I held my nerve. To reach the Wimbledon final—it’s a dream come true.”
Sabalenka, known for her powerful baseline game, battled heat and pressure on Centre Court, even pausing play to help two ill spectators with water and an ice pack. But Anisimova kept her composure and seized the moment in the deciding set.
Swiatek Cruises into Final With Statement Win Over Bencic
In the day’s second semi-final, Polish star Iga Swiatek dismantled Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-0 in just 71 minutes to reach her first Wimbledon final. The five-time Grand Slam champion has now made finals appearances across all major surfaces.
“Honestly, I never thought I’d reach the Wimbledon final,” said Swiatek. “It’s been a beautiful surprise, and I’m just enjoying every moment.”
Swiatek, the No. 8 seed, dominated from the outset, breaking Bencic early and never looking back. She has now dropped just one set the entire tournament and is peaking at just the right time on grass—historically not her strongest surface.
Djokovic Eyes Record 8th Wimbledon Title After Reaching 14th Semi-Final
On the men’s side, Novak Djokovic advanced to a record 14th Wimbledon semi-final by overcoming a spirited challenge from Italy’s Flavio Cobolli, winning 6-7(6), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4.
The 38-year-old Serbian is now just two matches away from an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam title and a record-tying eighth Wimbledon crown.
“Wimbledon is the most special tournament to me,” Djokovic said. “At 38, being in the final four again is a blessing. I’m still loving the competition—especially against these younger guys.”
Djokovic will now face top seed Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals, while Carlos Alcaraz or Taylor Fritz will await the winner in the championship match.
