Barcelona won’t sign Inigo Martinez replacement, says Flick

Hansi Flick Rules Out New Centre-Back Signing After Barcelonaโ€™s 5-0 Win Over Como

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has confirmed that the club is unlikely to sign a replacement for Inigo Martinez, who recently left for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.

Speaking after Barcelonaโ€™s emphatic 5-0 victory over Como in the Joan Gamper Trophy, Flick said the team is satisfied with its current defensive options despite Martinezโ€™s departure.

โ€œI donโ€™t think we will sign a new centre-back to replace Inigo Martinez. I will talk to Deco soon,โ€ Flick told the press. โ€œWeโ€™re very happy with the squad, especially the new arrivals, but there are still areas we must improve, such as our defensive pressing,โ€ he added.

Barcelonaโ€™s win over Como marked the conclusion of their pre-season preparations ahead of the 2025/26 La Liga campaign. Last season, the Catalan sideโ€™s defence earned praise for its well-executed offside trap, with Martinez playing a crucial role in that system.

The club will now turn its focus to their opening league fixture, aiming to carry the momentum from their dominant pre-season into competitive action.
