Hansi Flick Rules Out New Centre-Back Signing After Barcelona’s 5-0 Win Over Como
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has confirmed that the club is unlikely to sign a replacement for Inigo Martinez, who recently left for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.
Speaking after Barcelona’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Como in the Joan Gamper Trophy, Flick said the team is satisfied with its current defensive options despite Martinez’s departure.
“I don’t think we will sign a new centre-back to replace Inigo Martinez. I will talk to Deco soon,” Flick told the press. “We’re very happy with the squad, especially the new arrivals, but there are still areas we must improve, such as our defensive pressing,” he added.
Barcelona’s win over Como marked the conclusion of their pre-season preparations ahead of the 2025/26 La Liga campaign. Last season, the Catalan side’s defence earned praise for its well-executed offside trap, with Martinez playing a crucial role in that system.
The club will now turn its focus to their opening league fixture, aiming to carry the momentum from their dominant pre-season into competitive action.
