PTA Reveals Major Gaps in Broadband Service Quality Across Pakistan
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released findings from its latest Quality of Service (QoS) survey, evaluating the performance of 45 broadband service providers across 22 major cities during the second quarter of 2025. The survey was conducted under the framework of the Fixed Broadband Quality of Service Regulations, 2022, aiming to measure service quality, reliability, and consumer satisfaction.
Key Performance Indicator Missed by Most ISPs
A significant portion of Broadband Service Providers (BSPs) failed to meet one of the most critical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)—Bandwidth Utilization. High bandwidth usage, especially during peak hours, has resulted in slower download and upload speeds, directly affecting user experience.
This ongoing issue highlights the need for immediate improvements in network optimization, traffic management, and infrastructure upgrades to deliver consistent and high-quality broadband services to end-users.
PTA’s Response to Underperforming Providers
To address these shortfalls, PTA has formally notified non-compliant operators, sharing detailed performance metrics that identify their weaknesses in critical KPIs. These reports serve as a roadmap for providers to implement corrective actions and align their services with regulatory standards.
Improving Broadband Quality Across Pakistan
The PTA emphasized that by investing in better bandwidth allocation strategies, upgrading network infrastructure, and enhancing traffic management protocols, broadband operators can significantly improve their service performance and meet customer expectations.
Why These Surveys Matter
The Fixedline QoS surveys are a vital part of PTA’s efforts to enhance Pakistan’s digital infrastructure. They assess not only network reliability and speed performance, but also customer support and overall user satisfaction.
As fixed-line broadband plays a critical role in education, remote work, business operations, and digital communication, ensuring high service standards is essential for national digital growth.
Regulatory Standards Driving Change
These evaluations are governed by the Fixed Broadband Quality of Service Regulations, 2022, which define measurable benchmarks, including:
-
Network Uptime
-
Data Throughput (Download/Upload Speeds)
-
Latency and Jitter
-
Packet Loss
-
Customer Support Responsiveness
The goal is to ensure that every internet user across Pakistan can enjoy fast, stable, and reliable broadband service—a cornerstone for digital progress.
