OTTAWA: Baseball Canada has unveiled a 26-player roster for the upcoming Women’s National Team Development Camp (WNTDP) in the United States, scheduled from October 15 to 19 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
The Canadian squad will take part in four games against USA Baseball Development Teams, two intra-squad contests, and a Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP) Testing Workout — providing athletes with valuable exposure and experience in a high-performance environment.
Experienced Core Returns
Of the 26 players named, 11 have previous international experience, including 10 members of the team that won bronze at the 2024 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals in Thunder Bay.
“These athletes represent the future of Canadian women’s baseball. The WNTDP gives them the opportunity to test their skills against top-level competition and continue their development,” said Baseball Canada in its official statement.
Players returning with Women’s National Team experience include:
Lucie Anctil, Ela Day-Bédard, Alexane Fournier, Alizée Gélinas, Liz Gilder, Andréanne Leblanc, Cassie Matlock, Raine Padgham, Sarah Pengelly, Michelle Roche, and Allison Schroder.
The remaining 15 players are set to make their first appearance in the Canadian Women’s National Team program.
Coaching Staff Brings Winning Experience
Head Coach Anthony Pluta, who guided Canada to its bronze medal at the WBSC World Cup 2024, will once again lead the team.
He will be joined by pitching coach Aaron Myette, also returning to the staff after the team’s successful 2024 campaign.
The coaching lineup also features former Women’s National Team athlete Brittney Langlais, alongside Kristy Watson and Logan Wedgewood, both making their debuts on the national staff.
“We’re excited to blend experienced players and coaches with emerging talent,” said Pluta. “This mix creates the ideal environment for growth and success.”
Development and International Exposure
The Women’s National Team Development Programme is designed to provide players with international competition, skills testing, and professional-level coaching — essential steps in preparing for future World Cup and Pan-American events.
Canada’s participation highlights its growing commitment to women’s baseball development, with the country continuing to produce world-class athletes on the diamond.
Summary:
Canada’s 26-player roster for the Women’s Baseball Development Camp in the USA combines experience with emerging talent. The team, led by Anthony Pluta and Aaron Myette, aims to build on its 2024 World Cup success while preparing the next generation of players for the global stage.
