Past Champions Inspire as Pitt County Shines at Little League Softball World Series 2025
As the 2025 Little League Softball World Series heats up in Greenville, North Carolina, the local spotlight is on the Pitt County Girls Softball Team, who have started the tournament strong with a 2-0 record.
Adding to the excitement, members of last year’s 2024 championship-winning team were present at Stallings Stadium on Monday to support and mentor the current roster. The reunion offered a heartwarming reminder of the tournament’s lasting impact on young athletes and the strong sense of community that surrounds youth sports.
A Special Homecoming for 2024 Champions
During Monday morning’s game, players from last year’s title-winning squad were on hand at the park, greeting and encouraging the 2025 team. Many of the returning girls shared heartfelt advice and words of encouragement with the current players.
“It’s really special to watch them now step into a mentorship role,” said Brad Medhus, head coach of last year’s team. “They’ve been practicing with the current team and trying to simulate real game pressure. We’ve done our best to prepare these girls for the intensity of this tournament.”
Advice From Last Year’s Champions
Three members of the 2024 championship team – Emery Peebles, Emma Pilgreen, and Braelyn Johnson – offered simple yet powerful messages to the new squad:
“Play like it’s a normal game and have fun.”
“Don’t be scared. Everyone is doing the same thing, and everyone is here to support you.”
“Just play your game and don’t worry about the cameras or the crowd.”
Cheering From the Sidelines
While some alumni were active mentors, others were simply happy to be back in the stands cheering for their friends. Aurora Edwards and Brooklyn Medhus, also part of last year’s championship run, shared their excitement:
“I’m really excited for them. It’s a great opportunity to show everyone how good they are.”
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, something they’ll remember forever. I’m so happy they get to be a part of it.”
How to Watch the Games
The tournament action continues all week long, with games being streamed live on ESPN. Fans can catch the championship game airing this Sunday on WCTI, as the best young softball players in the world battle it out for the title.
