Charros de Jalisco Defeat Sultanes de Monterrey 6-0 to Advance in Playoffs

The Charros de Jalisco sealed a dominant 6-0 victory over Sultanes de Monterrey in Game 7 of their first-round series, advancing to the second round of the playoffs. Despite losing a 3-0 series lead earlier, the Charros secured the win with an impressive shutout performance.

The Charros took an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning. Michael Wielansky crossed the plate on a Willie Calhoun sacrifice fly, followed by a three-run homer from Kyle Garlick, putting Jalisco ahead 4-0. Garlick wasn’t done yet, as he later drove in another run in the third and scored in the fifth to give the Charros a commanding 6-0 advantage.

Luis Payan, the Charros’ starting pitcher, threw an outstanding 6 1/3 innings, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out six. Sasagi Sanchez took over for 1 1/3 innings, giving up three hits, and Trevor Clifton closed the game with a clean 1 1/3 innings, allowing just a walk.

The Sultanes de Monterrey, who claimed the Zona Sur regular season title, struggled throughout the game, managing only four hits and leaving seven runners on base. Despite their efforts, they went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

The Charros will now face Algodoneros de Union Laguna in the second round, while Monterrey will play Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos, who advanced after their 10-4 win over Acereros de Monclova in Game 7.

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos 10, Acereros de Monclova 4 – Tecos Secure Spot in Second Round

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos triumphed over Acereros de Monclova, winning 10-4 in Game 7 of their series. Aledmys Diaz was a standout, going 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs. Yadiel Hernandez, Ali Castillo, and Jose Martinez each contributed two RBIs in a game that saw the Tecos advance to their third consecutive postseason second round.

Junior Guerra, the Tecos’ starter, delivered a strong performance, going eight innings and allowing four runs on six hits. The team’s offense exploded with a five-run rally in the third, highlighted by two-run homers from Kennys Vargas and Rodolfo Amador.

The Tecos will now face the Sultanes de Monterrey in the next round, while the Acereros end their season after a tough first-round loss.

Piratas de Campeche Lead Pericos de Puebla 2-0 (Game Suspended)

The Piratas de Campeche were leading Pericos de Puebla 2-0 when their game was suspended due to rain in the second inning. The game had already been delayed after Game 5 was postponed due to weather.

In the third inning, Cal Mitchell hit a double that scored Christian Ibarra and Conner Hollis, giving Campeche the early 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, the game was called off shortly after.

Miller Hogan, the starting pitcher for Campeche, threw four solid innings, allowing three hits and striking out four. The game is scheduled to resume on Monday at 4 p.m. EDT.

Cricket West Indies Calls Emergency Meeting to Revive Test Cricket Legacy Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced an emergency strategic intervention following a challenging Test series against Australia, aimed at revitalizing the team’s long-format performance. In response to the recent series defeat, CWI President Kishore Shallow has convened a special meeting of the Cricket Strategy and Officiating Committee. To provide expert insight and guidance, he has invited three of the region’s most celebrated cricket legends—Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards, and Brian Lara—to join the discussions. These icons will collaborate with existing committee members Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Desmond Haynes, and Ian Bradshaw. “To strengthen the discussions, I have extended invitations to three of our greatest batsmen ever: Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards, and Brian Lara,” Shallow said in a recent statement. Together, the trio brings decades of experience and nearly 28,000 Test runs. Their involvement is intended to offer both inspiration and practical solutions to help guide the next chapter of West Indies cricket. “This engagement is not ceremonial. These are men who helped define our golden eras,” Shallow explained. “Their perspectives will be invaluable as we shape the next phase of our cricket development. We intend for this gathering to result in tangible, actionable recommendations.” While the recent series outcome has prompted reflection within the cricketing community, CWI emphasized the importance of maintaining a forward-looking approach. The board remains committed to long-term planning and rebuilding a strong, competitive Test team. West Indies cricket has seen significant success in the T20 format, but the rise of shorter formats has presented challenges for the traditional Test arena. CWI hopes that renewed focus and expert input will help bridge this gap and encourage greater interest and preparation for red-ball cricket. The strategic meeting is expected to produce a roadmap focused on resilience, performance development, and fostering a renewed culture of excellence. With leadership from some of the game’s greatest Caribbean players, West Indies cricket aims to build a future rooted in its proud and storied legacy
