Chicken Now Costs Rs. 30 More per Kilo in the Market

Broiler Chicken Prices Surge by Rs. 30 Per Kg, Igniting Consumer Concerns

LAHORE – The price of broiler chicken has seen another sharp increase, rising by Rs. 30 per kilogram, sparking frustration among consumers already grappling with inflation.

Despite official efforts to stabilize prices, chicken meat is being sold well above government-set rates in many local markets across Punjab.

Government Price vs. Market Reality

Authorities have fixed the official retail price of chicken at Rs. 577 per kg. However, a recent market survey shows that poultry vendors are charging anywhere between Rs. 595 and Rs. 610 per kgβ€”Rs. 20 to 30 higher than the regulated price.

β€œNo shop is following the official rate,” said a local shopper, highlighting the lack of enforcement in daily price monitoring.

Impact on Consumers

The price hike is adding to the financial pressure on households, especially as chicken remains a key source of affordable protein for many families.

Experts say stronger enforcement measures and consistent price checks are needed to bring the market back in line with official rates.
