China Willing to Invest More in Pakistan’s Minerals

China to Boost Cooperation With Pakistan in Agriculture, Industry, and Mining

TIANJIN – China has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening economic ties with Pakistan, with a particular focus on agriculture, industrial development, and the mining sector, according to a report by Reuters.

The announcement came after a high-level meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday in the Chinese city of Tianjin.

Strategic Economic Partnership

China expressed its willingness to deepen collaboration across multiple sectors that are key to Pakistan’s economic growth. This includes:

  • Modern agricultural practices and technology

  • Industrial production and export development

  • Investment in mineral exploration and processing

The renewed cooperation comes amid Pakistan’s ongoing push to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and improve domestic output in critical sectors.

Security and Stability Commitments

In addition to economic cooperation, Wang Yi reiterated China’s support for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts. He expressed confidence that Pakistan would continue to implement strong measures to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals, infrastructure projects, and institutions operating within the country.

Focus on Mining and Copper Exports

In June 2025, the Balochistan Board of Investment and Trade (BBoIT) initiated new efforts to attract Chinese investment in local mineral processing industries. The province, rich in natural resources, aims to become a regional hub for copper refinement and export.

Pakistan currently exports approximately $1.2 billion worth of copper to China annually. Strengthening bilateral ties in the mining sector is expected to increase copper exports, boost employment, and enhance Pakistan’s industrial capacity.

A New Chapter in China-Pakistan Economic Relations

This meeting marks another step forward in the broader China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework, which has already brought billions in infrastructure investment to Pakistan.

With enhanced cooperation in agriculture, industry, and mining, both countries aim to unlock sustainable development opportunities and strengthen strategic ties in the years ahead.
