The Murree glass train project has entered a new phase as the consultant working on the plan has recommended extending the route toward Islamabad International Airport via Faizabad. The proposal was discussed in recent meetings between the Punjab government, Nespak, and the Capital Development Authority (CDA), indicating steady progress on the project.
The Punjab government plans to launch the glass train service from Lake View Park and the Bhara Kahu Bypass to Murree. A complete feasibility study has already been conducted, and the current design includes a 40-kilometre elevated track from Bhara Kahu Bypass to Pindi Point in Murree.
A recent meeting led by Chief Minister’s Adviser Shahid Ashraf Tarar with CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa explored the idea of linking the Murree route with the airport to make the service more accessible for travelers.
According to sources, Nespak has shared its pre-feasibility findings with CDA. The consultant suggested using the existing metro track between the airport and Faizabad for the new elevated monorail. It also proposed building a 13-kilometre link from Faizabad to the Bhara Kahu Bypass, connecting it to the main station planned near Lake View Park.
For future expansion, the route could also be extended from Rawat to Faizabad, running along the Expressway and merging with the monorail at Faizabad.
A CDA board member confirmed that the authority will now proceed with a full feasibility study based on Nespak’s recommendations. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expressed her commitment to launching the glass train service soon and has assured Murree residents that development will begin without delay.
