Cristiano Ronaldo Clarifies His Retirement Timeline: “One or Two Years Left”

 November 11, 2025

Cristiano Ronaldo has finally shed light on his earlier comment about retiring “soon,” confirming that the end of his legendary football journey could come in one or two years.

The 40-year-old Portuguese superstar, who has scored over 950 career goals, said during a virtual appearance at a global tourism and investment summit in Saudi Arabia that he’s still enjoying the game but understands that time is ticking.

“Soon for me means in 10 years… No, I’m joking,” Ronaldo said with a smile. “I feel very good right now. I’m still scoring goals, still fast and sharp. But to be honest, when I said ‘soon,’ I meant probably one or two years.”

Ronaldo, currently playing for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, extended his contract with the club until 2027. Despite his age, he remains one of the most consistent performers in world football and continues to inspire fans globally.

Ronaldo Eyes His Final World Cup in 2026

With Portugal close to qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ronaldo confirmed that the tournament — hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico — will likely be his last appearance on the world stage.

“Definitely, yes. I’ll be 41 then,” he said. “I’ve given everything to football. It’s been 25 years filled with passion, hard work, and achievements. I’m proud of what I’ve done. Now, I just want to enjoy every moment.”

Ronaldo currently holds the record as the top international goal scorer with 143 goals, cementing his place among the greatest players in football history.

Cristiano Jr. Following His Father’s Path

The football legend also spoke about his son, Cristiano Jr., who is already making waves with Portugal’s Under-16 team.

“As a father, I just want him to be happy,” Ronaldo said. “If he becomes better than me, that’s great. I’ll never be jealous. But I don’t want him to feel pressure because of who his father is.”

Ronaldo added that his son belongs to a “different generation” with new ways of thinking and living, and that his role as a parent is simply to support and guide him.

Ronaldo’s words show both confidence and humility — a balance that has defined his remarkable career. Whether he retires in one or two years, his legacy as one of the greatest players to ever grace the game is already secure.
