Daulton Varsho’s Career Night Powers Blue Jays to 10-4 Win Over Rockies

DENVER, August 6 — Daulton Varsho delivered a standout performance on Tuesday night, hitting two home runs and a double while driving in a career-high six runs as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Colorado Rockies 10-4 at Coors Field.

Varsho’s power display helped Toronto secure its second straight win of the series, with a three-game sweep now within reach on Wednesday.

Blue Jays Bats Stay Hot

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a strong outing as well, going 3-for-5 with a home run and an RBI double in the ninth. Nathan Lukes and Addison Barger also went deep, as the Blue Jays piled up five home runs in total. Bo Bichette, Alejandro Kirk, and Lukes each added two hits.

Varsho’s second homer of the night — a towering 467-foot shot to the third deck — was his 11th of the season and capped a three-run sixth inning that put Toronto firmly in control with a 7-2 lead.

Injuries Affect Both Teams

Both teams had players exit the game due to injuries:

  • Joey Loperfido, Toronto’s left fielder, left in the sixth after being struck on the knee by a 98 mph fastball.

  • Colorado’s Orlando Arcia exited in the fifth with a right arm injury, and Thairo Estrada left after injuring his right leg running out a double play in the sixth.

Rockies Strike Early, Fade Late

Hunter Goodman got Colorado on the board early with a two-run home run in the first inning. He added a single later and finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. The Rockies, however, couldn’t keep pace with Toronto’s power surge.

Rookie starter Anthony Molina (0-1), making his first MLB start of the season, struggled, allowing nine runs on seven hits in five-plus innings.

The Rockies did show signs of life in the sixth, scoring twice to cut the deficit to 7-4. Goodman singled, Jordan Beck was hit by a pitch, and Mickey Moniak followed with an RBI single, aided by a fielding miscue. Warming Bernabel then added a run-scoring hit.

Berríos Earns the Win

José Berríos (8-4) pitched 5 1/3 innings for the win, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits while walking one and striking out five.

Toronto sealed the victory in the ninth inning with Guerrero’s RBI double and another clutch hit from Varsho — a two-run double that brought his RBI total to six for the game.
