Serbia Shine in China Ahead of Volleyball World Championship 2025

Serbia’s women’s volleyball team enjoyed a strong warm-up before defending their crown at the upcoming FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2025. The reigning champions topped a four-nation preparation tournament in Shenzen, China, securing victories over Bulgaria, Canada, and the Netherlands.

The event, held from Saturday to Monday, featured four teams that will also compete in Thailand later this month. The World Championship runs from August 22 to September 7.

Strong Performances in Shenzen

Serbia opened their campaign against Bulgaria with a 3-1 win (25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 25-12). Star opposite Tijana Bošković led the way with 25 points, including 23 kills.

In their second match, Bošković was rested, but outside hitter Aleksandra Uzelac stepped up brilliantly. She scored 21 points in Serbia’s 3-1 victory (25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21) over Canada.

The final test came against the Netherlands, considered the toughest opponent in the mini-tournament. Serbia secured a straight-sets win (25-21, 25-20, 25-21), with Uzelac contributing 22 points and Bošković adding 16.

Final Standings

  • Serbia – First place (3 wins)

  • Netherlands – Second place

  • Bulgaria – Third place

  • Canada – Fourth place

The Dutch defeated Canada and Bulgaria, while Bulgaria edged Canada in a thrilling five-set battle.

Road to Thailand

At the World Championship 2025, Serbia will play in Pool H alongside Japan, Ukraine, and Cameroon. The Netherlands will compete in Pool A against hosts Thailand, Sweden, and Egypt. Both Bulgaria and Canada are placed in Pool E, where Türkiye and Spain complete the group.
