DG ISPR Reaffirms Pakistan’s Resolve Against Terrorism, Analysts Highlight Key Takeaways
October 10, 2025 | Islamabad
Defence experts have described Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry’s latest press conference in Peshawar as a strong message reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorism and addressing internal and external challenges to national security.
A Strategically Timed Address
According to defence analyst Syed Muhammad Ali, the timing and location of the DG ISPR’s media briefing carried “strategic importance”, signaling Pakistan’s intent to act decisively against militant networks operating from both within and outside its borders.
“The message is clear — the status quo will not continue,” said Ali, emphasizing that the presser was directed at elements undermining Pakistan’s sovereignty and counterterrorism resolve.
He added that the press conference, held shortly after the Corps Commanders’ Conference and a federal cabinet meeting, reflected complete alignment between the state, government, and armed forces in tackling security challenges.
Focus on Implementation of National Action Plan
Ali noted that the DG ISPR reaffirmed the full implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) to eliminate terrorism and extremism. He also pointed out concerns regarding administrative inefficiencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), saying poor governance has affected the province’s ability to act effectively against militant elements.
He added that delays in judicial proceedings have also hampered progress, with numerous terrorism-related cases still pending in courts.
Analysts on Counterterrorism Measures
Commenting on unconfirmed reports about the killing of outlawed TTP leader Noor Wali Mehsud in Afghanistan, Ali noted that neither Pakistan nor Afghan authorities had issued an official statement. However, he said the DG ISPR’s remarks signaled that Pakistan will protect its national security interests by all necessary means.
‘Crime-Terror Nexus Must Be Dismantled’
Another defence expert, Brigadier (retd) Rashid Wali, said one of the key highlights of the press conference was the DG ISPR’s focus on eradicating the crime–terror network that funds extremist activities.
He emphasized that smuggling, non-custom-paid vehicles, and organized crime networks continue to serve as major sources of terrorist financing.
“You cannot effectively fight terrorism when the same system supports its funding,” he explained, urging stronger coordination between provincial institutions and law enforcement agencies.
Unified Action for Peace and Stability
Both analysts agreed that Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts require joint political, administrative, and military commitment. The DG ISPR’s statements, they said, underline a renewed resolve to strengthen internal security and ensure long-term stability across the region.
