DRAP Issues Warning After Two Popular Medicines Found Fake in Pakistan

 October 9, 2025

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a public warning after declaring two widely available medicines as spurious and unsafe for use. The authority has directed provincial drug inspectors to immediately seize the affected products from the market to protect public health.

According to an official statement released on Wednesday, the two medicines identified are:

  • Efaston Tablets (Dydrogesterone 10mg)

  • Paracare Suspension 60ml (Paracetamol 120mg/5ml)

Laboratory testing confirmed that both products lacked active pharmaceutical ingredients, rendering them ineffective and potentially harmful if consumed.

DRAP’s Warning to the Public

DRAP cautioned that using falsified or counterfeit medicines can lead to treatment failure, worsening of medical conditions, and serious health risks, particularly for patients who depend on these medications for essential therapy.

The regulatory authority has urged citizens to stop using these products immediately and to consult a healthcare professional if they experience any unusual symptoms or side effects. Consumers are also advised to verify batch numbers and report any suspicious or unregistered medicines to the nearest health department or directly to DRAP.

Call for Vigilance from Healthcare Professionals

Hospitals, pharmacies, and healthcare providers have been instructed to closely monitor their supply chains and ensure that only authentic, approved medicines are stocked and dispensed. DRAP emphasized that reporting counterfeit drugs plays a crucial role in maintaining public safety and pharmaceutical integrity across the country.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening drug quality control and ensuring that safe, effective, and genuine medicines remain accessible to patients nationwide.
