Nathan Eovaldi’s Strong Run Ends as He Allows 3 Home Runs in Rangers Loss

ARLINGTON, Texas —

Nathan Eovaldi’s impressive pitching streak came to an end on Monday night as he gave up three home runs and five runs in five innings during the Texas Rangers’ game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The 35-year-old right-hander struck out three, walked one, and hit two batters before leaving the game with the Rangers trailing 5-1. Despite the tough outing, Eovaldi earned a no-decision after Rowdy Tellez hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning, sending the game into extra innings.

Before this game, Eovaldi had allowed just six runs over his previous seven starts, with only two home runs given up in his last 14 games. His recent consistency ranks alongside legendary pitchers; only Hall of Famer Bob Gibson matched a similar run of low runs allowed over a 14-game span, back in 1968.

Though Eovaldi’s ERA rose from 1.38 to 1.71 following the outing, it remains among the best in Major League Baseball. His durability has been impressive, pitching 116 innings over 120 games this season after returning from elbow inflammation in June.

The Diamondbacks broke through early with rookie Tyler Locklear’s two-run homer in the second inning. Corbin Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo added solo home runs in the third, extending Arizona’s lead.

Despite allowing the runs, Eovaldi managed to avoid further damage by inducing double plays in the fourth and fifth innings. Arizona came into the game off a strong offensive performance, having set a franchise record with 17 hits in their previous outing.

This marks Eovaldi’s third season with the Rangers, who honored his contract’s $100,000 All-Star bonus despite him missing the American League All-Star team.
