Fakhar Zaman Begins Rehab, Expected to Return for Asia Cup 2025
Pakistan’s star opener, Fakhar Zaman, has started his rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore, with strong hopes of regaining full fitness ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 — a major boost for Pakistan’s top order.
The left-hander sustained a hamstring strain during the second T20I against West Indies in Lauderhill, Florida, while fielding late in the match. The injury ruled him out of the third T20I and the subsequent ODI series. Pakistan’s team management opted for a cautious recovery approach to ensure his full readiness for the upcoming tournament.
Sources close to the player have indicated that the injury is minor, with an initial recovery timeline of 10–15 days. With the Asia Cup scheduled to kick off in the UAE in early September, expectations are high that Fakhar will be match-ready once his rehabilitation is complete.
Known for his aggressive stroke play and ability to dominate spin in the Powerplay overs, Fakhar remains a key figure in Pakistan’s batting strategy, especially on UAE pitches that demand both skill and intent against varied bowling attacks.
This marks his second injury setback in recent months. Earlier, Fakhar missed Pakistan’s Champions Trophy clash against India after sustaining an oblique muscle tear against New Zealand. His absence had forced changes in the top order, but team balance and attacking options improve significantly when he’s in the lineup.
If recovery goes according to plan, Pakistan could have a fully fit Fakhar Zaman ready to open in the Asia Cup 2025 — just in time for one of the most anticipated cricket events of the year.
