A high-level delegation of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) held an important meeting with Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, in Islamabad on Thursday.

The delegation was led by Group Leader Asim Raza, accompanied by Punjab Chairman Riazullah Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chairman Naeem Butt, Senior Vice Chairman Khurram Maqsood, and Deputy Chairman Aamir Rafiq, along with other current and former office-bearers.
Former Punjab Chairman Iftikhar Ahmad Mattoo, Raza Ahmad Shah, Khawaja Imran Tariq Sethi, and several flour mill owners were also part of the delegation.

During the meeting, the delegation briefed the minister on the challenges faced by the flour milling industry, particularly regarding wheat availability, distribution of PASSCO wheat, and the stability of flour prices across the country.

The PFMA proposed to purchase 800,000 tons of wheat from the government and suggested that the free movement of wheat across provinces be allowed. The association emphasized that such a step would help stabilize wheat and flour prices, ensuring that flour and bread — the staple foods of ordinary citizens — remain affordable.

The delegation further recommended that the government allow wheat imports for value-added product manufacturing and export, saying this would boost foreign exchange reserves and contribute to overall economic stability.
Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain appreciated the association’s proposals and assured the delegation that the government is committed to addressing the genuine issues of the flour milling sector. He reiterated
that the government aims to ensure a level playing field and will take all necessary measures to support fair business opportunities and strengthen the agri-food value chain.
