Boxing Legend Joe Bugner Dies at 75

LONDON – Three-time European heavyweight champion Joe Bugner, who faced legends Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, has passed away at the age of 75, the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) confirmed.

Bugner, a two-time British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion, fought Ali and Frazier in 1973 and challenged Ali again for the WBA and WBC world titles in 1975.

β€œJoe Bugner has passed away at his care home in Brisbane, Australia,” the BBBoC said, offering condolences to his family.

Over a 32-year professional career, Bugner won 69 of 83 bouts, including 41 knockouts. He turned pro in 1967, defeated Henry Cooper to claim European, British, and Commonwealth titles in 1971, and later moved to Australia, where he won the Australian heavyweight title in 1995 before retiring in 1999.

Bugner will be remembered as one of boxing’s toughest competitors of his era.
