Former British No. 1 Kyle Edmund Announces Retirement at 30
Former British No. 1 and world No. 14, Kyle Edmund, has officially announced his retirement from professional tennis at the age of 30. The 2018 Australian Open semi-finalist cited ongoing injuries and setbacks as the main reason for ending his career.
Born in Johannesburg, Edmund leaves the sport with two ATP titles, numerous notable wins, a Davis Cup trophy, and a memorable run at the 2018 Australian Open that showcased his full potential.
Injury-Stricken Career
Kyle’s career was heavily affected by injuries, including three left knee surgeries in November 2020, March 2021, and May 2022. He also faced persistent issues with his wrist, abdomen, hip, and foot. Despite these challenges, Edmund continued to return to the court, even after nearly two years away between 2020 and 2022.
He reached the Nottingham 3 Challenger final on grass in July 2025, but acknowledged he could no longer compete at the level that once made him a top-15 player.
