Karakoram Highway and Northern Routes Fully Restored After Rain Damage: NHA
The National Highway Authority (NHA) has completed emergency restoration of key roads in northern Pakistan, including the iconic Karakoram Highway (KKH) and major routes in Gilgit-Baltistan, following recent disruptions caused by heavy rainfall.
🚧 Roads Reopened for Safe and Smooth Travel
According to an official statement, restoration work was executed on an urgent basis, utilizing all available resources to ensure the uninterrupted flow of traffic through critical regions like Chilas, Babusar Top, Khunjerab Pass, and Skardu via the Jaglot–Skardu Highway.
Federal Secretary for Communications, Ali Sher Mehsud, personally inspected the routes and confirmed in a video message that road conditions are now stable and safe for travelers.
🕒 Fast-Track Recovery with 24/7 Response
Despite the scale of destruction, NHA teams successfully completed most of the rehabilitation work in record time. Over 90% of repairs were completed within just a few days, including the reopening of the N-15 route through Kaghan and Naran.
Mehsud emphasized that round-the-clock efforts, guided by clear directives from Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, played a key role in achieving rapid results.
🔧 Long-Term Improvements Underway
Alongside immediate repairs, long-term safety enhancements and infrastructure resilience projects are also in progress to prevent future disruptions. A detailed report has been submitted to the Ministry, outlining the completed and upcoming works.
Travelers are now encouraged to plan their journeys with confidence, as northern routes are open and operating normally.
