Manchester β September 2025
The boxing world is mourning the loss of Ricky Hatton, the former world champion, who was found dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on Sunday at the age of 46. Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
In his first public statement, Rickyβs son Campbell Hatton shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, along with family photographs.
βHeartbroken isnβt the word. Everyone always said I was your double β never a truer word said. I looked up to you in every aspect of life. I canβt explain how much Iβll miss the laughs and all the good times, which Iβll remember forever. Just canβt believe we wonβt have any more. Love you, Dad.β
A Legendary Career
Ricky Hatton, affectionately nicknamed βThe Hitmanβ, was one of Britainβs most celebrated boxers. Over a 15-year professional career, he won 45 of his 48 bouts, becoming a world champion at both light-welterweight and welterweight.
Hatton became a fan favorite not only for his fighting style but also for his charisma outside the ring. His 2007 title clash against Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas famously drew around 30,000 traveling British fans.
Although he retired in 2012, he had recently spoken of plans for a comeback later this year.
Family and Legacy
Campbell Hatton, who followed in his fatherβs footsteps with 14 professional wins, retired earlier this year.

Ricky Hatton will be remembered as a true peopleβs champion whose impact on the sport β and his fans β will endure for generations.
