Women’s Rugby World Cup Final: England vs Canada Set for Record-Breaking Showdown

Venue: Allianz Stadium, Twickenham
Date: Saturday, 27 September
Kick-off: 16:00 BST
Coverage: BBC One, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Sport website & app

The Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 is set for a historic finale as England face Canada at Twickenham’s 82,000-capacity Allianz Stadium, which has already sold out. The match will set a new record for the largest-ever crowd in women’s rugby history.

Record-Breaking Tournament

From the very first day, this year’s tournament has rewritten the record books. England’s opening match against the USA drew 42,723 fans, surpassing the 2022 World Cup final as the best-attended women’s rugby match at the time.

In total, more than 440,000 tickets have been sold across 32 matches — over three times more than the previous edition. With 470,000 tickets available, the tournament reached an impressive 94% capacity.

Smart Planning and Fan Engagement

Organizers credit the success to:

  • Affordable tickets starting at just £10 for adults and £5 for children.

  • Weekend scheduling of all matches (except the Friday night opener) to attract families and young fans.

  • Double-header fixtures that paired smaller matches with marquee games to boost crowds.

  • Strong digital storytelling, with content creators following teams to highlight personal stories and grow connections with fans.

One viral example was a video of Australia’s 18-year-old full-back Caitlyn Halse, pulled into the stands by her father after a match in York — it has been viewed more than 13 million times on TikTok.

Big Crowds for Big Matches

The knockout rounds were strategically staged in rugby’s traditional strongholds. The quarter-finals drew packed crowds in Exeter and Bristol, while the semi-finals at Bristol’s Ashton Gate attracted nearly 50,000 spectators combined.

Saturday’s final is expected to surpass previous benchmarks, including the 58,498 fans who watched England vs France in the 2023 Six Nations and the 66,000 fans at the women’s rugby sevens final during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The England vs Canada final promises not only an epic battle on the pitch but also a landmark moment for women’s rugby, solidifying its rapid growth and global appeal.
