ICC Reprimands Suryakumar Yadav Over Post-Match Remarks After Pakistan Clash
Dubai, September 25, 2025: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued a formal reprimand to Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav over his comments made after India’s group-stage win against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025, sources confirmed on Thursday.
PCB Complaint and ICC Response
The reprimand followed an official complaint lodged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which argued that Yadav’s remarks amounted to “politicising cricket” and were in violation of the ICC’s code of conduct on neutrality.
During the hearing, the ICC is understood to have advised Yadav to avoid political references in the future. The PCB’s complaint also highlighted that such comments were “against the spirit of the game” and risked damaging cricket’s reputation.
The matter stemmed from Yadav’s post-match statements after India’s seven-wicket victory over Pakistan on September 14. That high-profile encounter had already drawn attention after both teams skipped the traditional handshake at the toss, reportedly on the advice of the match referee.
Wider Reactions
Analysts and former players have described the incident as “unprecedented,” stressing that political remarks can undermine cricket’s global appeal and the importance of maintaining neutrality on the field.
BCCI Complaint Against Pakistan Players
In a separate development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) filed a complaint with the ICC against Pakistan’s Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan over their on-field gestures during the Super Fours clash in Dubai on Sunday.
According to reports, the complaint focused on Farhan’s animated celebration after reaching his half-century and Rauf’s gestures toward fans while fielding on the boundary. Clips of both incidents circulated widely on social media, sparking debate among cricket followers.
The ICC is expected to review the case, and if the players contest the allegations, they may appear before match referee Richie Richardson. Another senior referee, Andy Pycroft, is also officiating in the tournament.
Next Steps
Both Pakistan players are scheduled to appear before the ICC governing body on Friday, while the matter concerning Yadav is considered resolved with the official reprimand.
