Islamabad Bus Stands Auctioned for Record-Breaking Bids

Islamabad’s DMA Earns Record Revenue from Bus Stand Auctions

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) has set a new revenue record after successfully auctioning two of the capital’s busiest bus stands. The G-9 terminal was leased for Rs. 81.6 million annually, while the I-11 stand fetched Rs. 38 million.

According to officials, this year’s results represent a massive jump compared to previous auctions. The G-9 stand, previously leased at Rs. 37.9 million, recorded a 104% increase, while the I-11 terminal surged by over 400% from last year’s Rs. 6.5 million bid.

The DMA attributed this success to reforms implemented under the supervision of Director Dr. Anam Fatima, which focused on breaking contractor monopolies, enforcing strict oversight, and restoring investor confidence. Both bus stands had been under self-collection since 2019 due to repeated failures in attracting competitive bids.

Revenues from the G-9 bus stand had already shown steady growth, rising from Rs. 26 million to Rs. 37.9 million in annual recoveries, while monthly collections doubled to Rs. 5.5 million by mid-2025. These improvements paved the way for the record-breaking Rs. 81.6 million annual auction deal, secured for three years with a mandatory 10% annual increase.

The I-11 stand also showed unprecedented interest, with this year’s final bid closing at Rs. 38 million compared to just Rs. 6.5 million earlier in 2025.

A DMA spokesperson said the auction outcome reflects the authority’s commitment to transparency and reform, making it one of the most significant boosts in municipal revenue in recent years.
