CDA to Build Pakistan’s Largest Convention & Expo Centre in Islamabad
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to construct the New Islamabad Convention, Exhibition & Expo Centre (ICEEC), set to become the largest facility of its kind in Pakistan. The project aims to provide modern infrastructure for large-scale events, meeting the capital’s growing demand for upgraded venues.
Currently, Islamabad relies on the Jinnah Convention Centre (JCC) for civic, government, and commercial events. However, the existing centre faces challenges, including limited parking, outdated facilities, and inadequate space for evolving event formats, highlighting the need for a more advanced venue.
Project Details
-
Location: 40-acre site within Islamabad Capital Territory
-
Built-up Area: 320,000 square feet
-
Parking: Multi-level parking for over 1,000 vehicles
-
Features: Hybrid event technologies, climate-resilient infrastructure, and international-standard hospitality services
The new centre is expected to decongest the JCC, reduce pressure on central areas, and position Islamabad as a regional hub for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE).
Design Competition
To select the architectural design, CDA has launched a National Architectural Design Competition. The competition is open to architects and firms registered with the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP).
Submissions will be evaluated on architectural quality, innovation, contextual relevance, and sustainability. A Selection Committee will review entries, and shortlisted designs will be assessed by a designated Jury for final recommendations.
Interested participants can obtain competition documents and submission guidelines from the official CDA website or via email. The submission deadline is October 15, 2025, with all queries handled by the Building & Housing Control Wing of the Authority.
The ICEEC promises to be a landmark facility, supporting Islamabad’s ambition to host world-class events while enhancing the city’s infrastructure for years to come.
