CDA Auctions Five Sites for Padel Tennis Courts in Islamabad, Expected to Generate Rs7.6 Million Monthly

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has successfully auctioned five prime sites across Islamabad for the development of padel tennis courts, with expected monthly revenue of Rs7.6 million.

Padel tennis—a fast-growing sport combining elements of tennis and squash—is gaining popularity across Pakistan. Recently, the CDA shifted from a revenue-sharing model to a fixed rent system after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi raised concerns about potential risks of corruption in the previous approach.

Following the minister’s directive, the CDA conducted a fresh auction that received an overwhelming response from investors eager to develop commercial padel tennis facilities.

Details of Auctioned Sites and Revenue

Under the supervision of acting CDA Chairman Talat Mahmood Gondal, five sites were auctioned with bidders agreeing to construct two courts at each location. The sites and their monthly auction prices are:

  • G-5 near Serena Hotel: Rs2.1 million

  • F-8: Rs2.1 million

  • F-9 Park: Rs1.45 million

  • G-11: Rs1.1 million

  • G-8: Rs900,000

Bidders are required to complete construction within 45 days, ensuring timely availability of these new sports facilities for Islamabad residents.

CDA’s Vision for Promoting Sports and Healthy Living

CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa and Acting Chairman Talat Mahmood expressed satisfaction with the auction results, emphasizing the transparent and competitive process that maximized public resource utilization.

“This initiative aligns with our broader vision to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle by partnering with the private sector to develop high-quality sports amenities,” said Acting Chairman Talat Mahmood Gondal.

Future Plans and Ongoing Developments

Padel courts are already operational at two other sites in Islamabad—F-6 and the Diplomatic Enclave—under the earlier revenue-sharing model. However, CDA confirmed that going forward, fixed rent auctions will be the preferred approach for new sports facilities.

Additionally, the CDA plans to soon auction new sites for futsal courts, continuing its efforts to promote diverse sports infrastructure in the city.
