Japan win Pool D power play against Brazil in Surabaya

Japan, Argentina, China, and Poland Claim Pool Wins at 2025 FIVB Women’s U21 World Championship

The final day of pool play at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U21 World Championship saw thrilling action as Japan came from a set down to beat Brazil 3-1 (24-26, 25-17, 25-22, 25-22) and top Pool D. Sae Omori led Japan with 19 points, while Koyumi Fukumura, Anna Uemura, and Ichiyo Ito also scored in double figures. Helena Wenk Hoengen tallied a match-high 26 points for Brazil.

In Pool A, Argentina completed an unbeaten run with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-22) win over hosts Indonesia. Martina Franco scored 13 points to lead the winners.

China, defending champions, dominated Pool B with a 5-0 record, closing with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 28-26) sweep over the USA. Zhao Zhexi and captain Li Chenxuan were standout performers, helping China limit errors and secure the top spot.

Poland secured Pool C with a commanding 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-20) victory over Czechia, edging Italy on points advantage. Aleksandra Adamczyk and Julia Hewelt powered the Polish attack, supported by Maria Splawska’s eight blocks.

Other notable results included Bulgaria finishing third in Pool D with a 3-0 win over Thailand, while Chile claimed fifth with a 3-1 victory over Tunisia. Vietnam, Serbia, Korea, and Croatia also recorded key wins to advance in the tournament.
