PMD Issues Fresh Rain Forecast for Karachi and Other Cities
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh forecast, warning of more rainfall in Karachi between August 30 and September 2, with a risk of urban flooding in vulnerable areas.
According to the weather advisory, thunderstorms and rain are also expected in Islamabad from August 29 to September 2, while heavy downpours are likely in parts of northern and north-eastern Punjab on August 30 and 31. Cities that may experience heavy rain include Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin.
Karachi, still struggling to recover from last week’s record-breaking rains, faced severe damage when many neighborhoods were submerged. Rescue teams used boats to evacuate stranded residents, and at least 15 lives were lost in rain-related incidents. The city recorded over 200 mm of rainfall, damaging infrastructure, flooding roads, and leaving several areas without electricity for days.
With another spell of heavy rainfall on the horizon, the PMD has urged citizens to stay cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and take safety measures to minimize risks.
