KP to Integrate AI into Higher Education

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Launches AI Integration Plan in Higher Education

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is taking a major step toward digital transformation by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its higher education system. The initiative is led by the provincial Higher Education Department, which has designated the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Mardan as the central hub for AI development across the province.

UET Mardan to Lead AI Revolution in KP

In an official announcement, the department assigned UET Mardan’s Centre for Artificial Intelligence the task of leading AI-based academic and research activities throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The university will organize specialized AI training workshops for students and faculty, while also supporting the development of AI tools and solutions in educational institutions.

To promote inclusive education, the directive emphasizes that fees for AI programs should remain affordable, allowing broader student access to these in-demand skills.

This groundbreaking move is backed by Chief Minister KP and Minister for Higher Education Mr. Meena Khan, who recently chaired a strategic meeting to outline both short-term and long-term AI integration goals. Key participants included UET Mardan Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Muhammad Khan, Special Secretary Mr. Ghulam Saeed, and AI Advisor Dr. Shafiq Ur Rehman.

The meeting focused on modernizing academic systems to meet international standards, using AI to enhance learning, teaching, and research outcomes.

Comprehensive AI Framework Coming Soon

UET Mardan’s AI Center will soon roll out a comprehensive AI framework for all public universities in the province. The framework is expected to be implemented by the next academic semester, with faculty training camps scheduled during the summer to ensure a smooth transition to the new AI curriculum.

To formalize this initiative, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the Higher Education Department and the Centre for AI at UET Mardan, ensuring clear collaboration and timely execution.

This initiative is set to transform education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, empowering students and faculty with future-ready skills in AI and positioning the province as a national leader in tech-driven education.
