Muncy, Hernandez Power Dodgers to 12-6 Victory Over Cardinals
LOS ANGELES, August 6 – The Los Angeles Dodgers delivered a powerful offensive performance on Tuesday night, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 12-6 at Dodger Stadium. The win was highlighted by Max Muncy and Teoscar Hernandez, who each launched two home runs and collected four RBIs.
Muncy, in just his second game back from the injured list, had a stellar four-hit night, helping the Dodgers improve to 8-9 since the All-Star break. Meanwhile, right-hander Emmet Sheehan (3-2) pitched five solid innings, allowing just two runs on four hits.
Mookie Betts broke out of an 0-for-22 slump with a three-hit game, including a double and two singles — his first three-hit outing since June 7.
Offensive Explosion in Early Innings
The Dodgers took a quick lead in the first inning after Shohei Ohtani doubled and scored on a Freddie Freeman sacrifice fly. Muncy then followed with his first home run of the night, putting Los Angeles ahead 2-0.
The Cardinals answered in the second inning with a two-run homer by Nolan Gorman, tying the game at 2-2. However, the Dodgers responded with three runs in the third. Muncy hit his second home run of the game — his 15th of the season — followed by a solo shot from Hernandez. It was the first time since May 19 that the Dodgers hit back-to-back home runs.
Dodgers Take Control Late
St. Louis briefly closed the gap with a run in the seventh via an Ivan Herrera RBI single. But the Dodgers pulled away in the bottom of the inning with a five-run burst. Muncy drove in a run with a single, and Hernandez followed with his second home run of the game — a three-run shot, bringing his season total to 18 home runs. Rookie Alex Freeland added an RBI single to cap off the inning.
In the eighth, Willson Contreras hit a solo home run for the Cardinals, his 16th of the year, but the Dodgers responded with two more runs. Freeman and Michael Conforto each added RBIs to push the lead further.
St. Louis managed two more runs in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.
Pitching Update
Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas (6-9) struggled, allowing five runs on seven hits in just three innings. The Cardinals have now lost five of their last six games, though they still lead the season series against the Dodgers, 3-2.
Looking Ahead
The Dodgers continue to regain form with Muncy back in the lineup, improving their offense and overall team balance. With key players like Betts, Ohtani, and Hernandez firing on all cylinders, Los Angeles looks poised to make a strong push in the second half of the season.
